Meet Dr. Robert Sickels

Burned by love
Robert C. Sickels received his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada, where he wrote his dissertation on the narrative role of landscapes in John Ford’s Westerns and also spent a lot of time mountain bike riding and gambling on sports.  At Whitman, he is the Alma Meisnest Chair of Humanities and a Professor in the Film & Media Studies Program, in which he teaches filmmaking and film history courses.  He is also the father of two great kids, a co-parent to a crazy Vizsla with his lovely wife Annie, hopelessly addicted to popular culture, especially movies, TV, music, and politics, an independent filmmaker and the founder of Big Whiskey Studios, a prolific author and editor, a podcaster, a foodie, a competitive bingo player, a fantasy sports enthusiast, an avid cyclist, and a semi-professional mixologist who takes his craft very seriously.
